Most readers by now have questioned the name of Georg’s daughter listed above. It’s no surprise the name is not familiar as one of the children’s, in fact, all the names and sexes of the seven von Trapp children represented in the movie were changed. The real von Trapp children were Rupert, Agathe, Maria, Werner, Hedwig, Johanna and Martina. Unlike in the film, they married in 1927, about a decade before the Nazis annexed Austria. The von Trapp family also wasn’t as wealthy as they seemed in The Sound of Music, as Georg lost most of his wealth during the global depression in the 1930s. And though his seven children are portrayed in the movie — with different names and often different genders — he and Maria actually had three additional children of their own.
The von Trapp family makes the decision to flee Austria and head for the border in an attempt to escape Nazi rule. When they are stopped by a Nazi leader, the family convinces the soldier that they are simply going to sing at a festival. The widowed dad and his kids eventually find joy and music through Maria's teachings. Their story is one of overcoming hardship and the importance of family.

Never in my wildest dreams did any of what we experienced even cross my mind as a possibility. Going to Salzburg sure, , but go to a wedding there and participate not as a tourist but as a guest and all that went with the four days and the Sound of Music sets? It was beyond my imagination and because of this experience, I have been inspired not only to think bigger but differently.
